EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel: The Speaker of the National Assembly and I confirm Bulgaria's role in the Western Balkans prospects
The Speaker of the National Assembly and I confirm Bulgaria's role in the Western Balkans prospects, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel said during a press briefing at the National Assembly, after meeting with Parliament Speaker Tsveta Karayancheva.
"I am glad that we have discussed the Western Balkans. This was a topic raised under the Bulgarian Presidency, which has been high on the agenda for two years now. This contribution should not be taken for granted. I will be delighted to take part in the meeting we discussed today in the first half of the year between the Speakers of Parliaments of the Western Balkans and Bulgaria. It is in the context of my upcoming tour of the region this spring," Commissioner Gabriel said.
In her opinion, it is important for the region to feel that the European prospect is not only about negotiations but also about concrete benefits. They are part of Europe and Bulgaria will continue to be very useful, Gabriel said, adding that it is the national parliaments that need to show that “we are strong only when we are united in diversity".
